Liberty London x Hay collaboration: a stunning new table lamp design
Liberty London is gearing up for fall by infusing their timeless floral patterns into the realm of lighting. This exciting collection of table lamps is the outcome of a collaborative effort between Liberty London and the Danish furniture, lighting, and accessories giant, Hay.
Remarkably, this marks the very first joint venture between these two esteemed brands, and it’s poised to take center stage in Liberty’s iconic shop windows during London Design Week.
Mette Hay, one of Hay’s co-founders, personally handpicked five patterns for this collection, which have been expertly transformed into pleated lampshades adorning the beloved Matin lamp, originally designed by Inga Sempé. Hay notes that the lamp’s distinctive shape breathes new life into these patterns, as Liberty had never before applied them to pleated fabric.
The chosen patterns include Mitsi, featuring a vibrant cherry blossom motif; Betsy Ann, a scaled-down interpretation of Liberty’s classic Betsy floral pattern; Ros, showcasing a pansy print; Ed, adorned with a rosehip pattern; and Cherry Drop, a fabric embellished with colorful cherries.

Hay was drawn to patterns that radiate a harmonious blend of Liberty’s playful spirit and a touch of sophistication. Much like many others, Hay has treasured memories of visiting Liberty over the years, including purchasing her daughter’s first dress there.
Consequently, the collaboration on the Matin lamp holds a special and sentimental place in her heart. She reflects,
“I felt very honored when Liberty placed its first Hay order. The thought of our collection being on display there was rather humbling… it made me proud”.
